Best performance so far

Bees U15 hosted their Chingford counterparts on Sunday after the game was called of last week as Chingford had a lack of numbers.

This week Chingford had a squad of 14 and arrived at Willowbrook have beaten the Bees 12-27 earlier in the season.
Unfortunately the Bees only has 12 of their squad of 16 available but the game went ahead at 12 v 13 at Chingford's insistence as it was a cup game.

Chingford started the game going down the Willowbrook slope with the wind at their backs.
This obviously made the Bees task even harder than it already was!

Billericay had to withstand pretty much constant attacks from Chingford, the conditions meaning they had no kicking option to clear their lines, instead the pack took the game to their opponents with ball in hand.
Chingford could and should have scored on a number of occasions but dropped passes, knock on's and committed tacking, especially from the backs when often outnumbered, kept them out.

The last attack of the half the away side spun the ball from their left to right, a 4 on 2 advantage in their favour, but the last pass fell short of the winger who knocked on. Elliot dropped on the ball and popped it off. Three passes later and Josh had a one on one 60m out.
He stepped inside the last defender and dotted down under the posts.
While Joey converted, for an unlikely 7-0 lead, Chingford's captain and assistant coach had a heated discussion about their first half performance.

During half time Ruben arrived back from the U14's game at Westcliff and stepped up to play for the second half. Soon after the start Sam Phillips also turned up, slung on a shirt, and joined the fray.

With the slope and elements now in their favour Bee's tails were up. The forward and their mauling were a constant threat. Hard running and great close contact handling kept the Bees moving forward.

From one such maul Chingford did steal the ball and their flyhalf tried to kick clear but the wind took the ball into the middle of the pitch 40m out. Three Bee's seemed to have a meeting while the ball bobbled around but Ruben ended up with it a took off heading to the far corner, rounding the last defender to score. Conversion missed.

The last score came from another rolling maul five minutes from the end.
Once the bodies cleared there were three Bee's with their hands on the ball. I'll let them decide who scored it.

At the final whistle the boys were jubilant. All the sideline said it was easily their best performance so far.
They've been on the end of some hammerings over the past three years and now seem to be turning a corner.
We're still looking for new players of any ability if you'd like to join us contact billericaybees@gmail.com.

Next week the boys are due to play South Woodham at Home. Kick off at 10:45.
Be good to see some support there.
