Billericay U13s travelled down to Westcliff to play a 'development match' in the final game of the season. Both teams 'went for it' from the start and there were early exchanges of quick, breakaway tries where the defensive lines of both teams were yet to get themselves organised. Billericay got themselves onto level terms and then in front and started to be the dominant team. The Billericay tackling was quickly improved and Westcliff found themselves pushed back. One of the main improvements in recent weeks has been the support play which the boys have been bringing into their game. The fast runners in the back line were giving each other lots of passing options which gave the Westcliff defence a lot of problems and they struggled to cope with the pace from Billericay.
After a quick halftime rest and some changes, Billericay continued where they left off continuing the pressure and putting in an impressive display of tackling. As it was a development match it was a good opportunity to try different players in different positions and the boys adapted well to this.
The scoreboard was very much in favour of Billericay as the final play saw one more try for the visiting Bees and then the whistle signalled the end of a very entertaining match played in an excellent spirit. We thank Westcliff RFC for their hospitality and look forward to some more excellent rugby next season.
The final 'on-field' moments of the season saw Tyler being carried off shoulder high by his team mates as he played his final match for Billericay before concentrating on his boxing career. Well done Tyler, you will be missed by the Bees and we will always welcome you back.
