Thurrock visited Willowbrook on a bright but blustery day for our final scheduled home match of the 2018/19 season. Billericay U13s have put the recent 'blip' of the heavy defeats vs Dagenham and Epping UC firmly behind them and both teams delivered a really competitive and exciting match which ended 20-30 in favour of the visitors. Thurrock brought a big squad with them both big in numbers and big in physique, probably the biggest players we have faced all season but such is the improvement in the Billericay U13 tackling and defence over the last few weeks, they were able to match the physical size and strength of the Thurrock boys. The Billericay scrum had to work really hard against the strong Thurrock pack but they held their own for the majority of the match. The Billericay passing and handling was particularly impressive and the catching of high balls off restarts was very good. The old habit of switching off slightly after scoring crept back and as soon as Billericay took the lead, Thurrock were able to quickly work a breakaway to level up again. Lots still to learn but lots to be proud of. The match was officiated by a young, newly qualified referee and the Billericay boys showed him respect and demonstrated good core values which was great to see. We have 2 training sessions and 2 more matches left this season, a really strong finish to a great season would be great to see and no more than our U13s deserve.
