Billericay U13 narrowly beaten by strong Basildon team (match officially awarded to Billericay as Bye win)

Squad : Taylor, Josh A, Sam, Cameron, Thomas, Josh C, Harry D, Tyler, Toby F, Archie, Toby G, James, Max, Lennon, Harry S, Charlie, Louis

Billericay U13 played a League match vs Basildon 'B'. Due to Basildon being unable to field a 'true' B Team (they fielded at least 7 'A' Team players who normally play in Division 1) the match was played with Billericay being awarded a Bye / walkover win officially and we thank Basildon RFC for their integrity in letting us know in advance about this, excellent rugby core value spirit.
The fact that Basildon fielded a strong and physical line up made the performance of Billericay even more impressive and the boys should be very proud of themselves today.
Billericay kicked off going uphill but started slowly and took a while to find their feet, early on giving away two cheap tries where missed tackles were punished, they eventually started to make some inroads into Basildon territory, the Billericay scrum who were excellent through the whole game provided a powerful base for the backs to quickly move the ball into space and Billericay ran in three quick tries to take the lead. The Bees took their foot off the gas again and a couple of interceptions resulting in breakaway tries gave Basildon the lead which they held to half time.
Billericay came out for the second half in determined mood and were helped by the downward slope of the pitch, overall they were the more dominant team in the second half, Basildon brought on some more of their 'A' players at half time and they provided a real physical edge to the match. Billericay fought hard and matched Basildon in all departments, the scrum again performing really well. Billericay 'won the second half' of the match but Basildon held on to their narrow one try lead to full time. The boys can be really proud of themselves today for a great Team performance.
We did suffer a couple of injuries today and all the boys and parents send their warm wishes to Taylor and Harry S and look forward to them getting back on the pitch as soon as possible. Lots of thanks to our First Aider, Isobel who was kept busy today ! Good work Iz !
