Billericay enjoy flowing rugby in the autumn sun.

Billericay U12’s continued their winning start to the 2014-2015 campaign with two wins against a spirited Ongar team. After an impressive set of victories against a developing Stanford Le Hope team last week, Billericay faced a sterner test from an Ongar team that were well drilled at the scrum and had a few dynamic individual runner. Indeed a challenge made even harder by Ongar receiving three Billericay players in each game who relished the chance to take down their team mates. A special mention to these six who put everything in when playing for the blue and gold of Ongar.

Game one.
Billericay had lots of early possession without being able to capitalise on their dominant field position. Billericay kept faith with their passing game and managed to work through several phases of good ball which was rewarded mid-way into the half with a converted try from Louis Travers -Cook. The confidence continued to ooze through the team and 2nd score was added by Tom Jones before the break.
Billericay’s defence and scrum had to work hard to keep Ongar to zero points across the game, this was achieved through a large amount of commitment shown by all players on the park. A third try though Johnny Windham put the result beyond doubt and a score-line of 3 converted try’s to 0 (21-0) reflected to the overall team play that Billericay showed.

Game two,
Billericay started very quickly with two quick try’s – Tom Hollaman and George Durham crossing the line to ensure they got reward for their passing and running game made possible by a strong platform provided by the bigger Billericay forwards. Ongar settled into the half and a more even period of play resulted. Billericay absorbed the pressure well. Tom Jones scored an excellent breakaway try with the ball travelling the length and width of the pitch. Billericay turned around 3 try’s ahead (19-0) at the break but were caught a little cold at the start of the 2nd half when Ongar got the try that their effort and skill over the two games deserved.
After more Ongar pressure, Billericay found their stride and settled into a spell of heavy territory that was only relieved by the referee taking an attempted Ongar clearance straight in the unmentionables. This didn’t stop Billericay pressing for more try’s and two short range forward bursts by Tom Hollaman and Will Fairman underscored the strength of the pack. Billericay ran out 5-1 (33-5) winners and were loud in their appreciation of Ongar as an opposition.
A great morning for Billericay U12’s who did themselves and the coaches proud. The whole squad contributed to terrific team performances in the autumn sun.
