Just like Saracens only more exciting

It has been a while, thankfully with no more beasts from the Easts we finally were able to play some rugby.
With a busy Saturday at Stratford for many of the players and parents, the clocks going forward and a beer tasting tour of bermondsey for me, we all looked surprisingly well and energetic. That was surprising considering how far I had to walk to the ground after parking the car.
With Chelmsford having slightly more numbers than us we took 2 of the chelmsford players for both games. I was pleased how the players adapted to playing with the chelmsford players.
Both teams played very well in both of their games. Highlights of the games were

Taging and defence - There was some really good defence from all players. We saw some great one handed tags, diving tags and chasing down all the way to the line. The speed with which Nathan reacted to the kick offs was great, tagging players seconds after kick off. Aaron has obviously been watching a lot of rugby recently and from this decided to take up the full back position during the games. Although its too early to coach positions it actually worked very well and he made some great last man tags.

Passing and catching - The low number of times you saw the ball on the ground shows how well the team did with passing and catching today.
We saw some great catches by the players, some of them were straight forward but a fair number were great catches considering where the ball was, the movement of the players and the spreed of the game. It was also good to see the players passing during the game not just when they were tagged.

Working as a team - As a group they are getting better and better at working as a team, considering they do not all attend the same school and at most they all are together once a week, seeing them become more of a team is great.

Todays players were
Rory, Jimmy, Harry, Ryan, Nick, Alex, Nathan, Arran, Patrick, Henry, Baker and Benjy.
Try scorers included Henry, Nick, Nathan, Ben, Jimmy, (i think I might of missed a few going between the games so if I have apologies I will add them in)

Food - I was hoping for a quote from Harry as to how good the meatballs and chips were but he was too busy eating his and his brothers. On that basis he seemed to be definitely enjoying the food. The coffee I had on arrival was also good, not up to costa standards but certainly woke me up.

Next week no rugby as it is Easter week end, We will send out an update shortly with the schedule for the rest of the season. One thing is that for the bee fest we will be looking at putting in a under 8's parents and coaches team for the touch rugby so will be looking for willing participants, its normally only 7 a side. It is a bit of fun and so athletic ability and passed experience is not essential.

Hope everyone enjoyed the day.
Ben
