Sun, Saufend and Sausage sandwiches

A late re-arranged fixture, considering the info only went out on Friday and its still half term we had a good attendance 9.
We arrived to a surprised Southend Team manager, who had not been informed of the last minute fixture, Thank fully they were happy to adapt their plans and we agreed a revised match schedule of shorter games of 12 minutes and an increase from 6 to 7 players.

So we did not need a long warm up it was nice to have the sun out for a change and so the thermals were not needed. The pre match chat focused on trying to encourage passing while moving forward and seeing if everyone could score a try.

Both teams were quick and were comfortable running with the ball. The big pitch gave them all a fair amount of space to work with.
We again were very well organised in defense, after a little slow start we were quick to close the space and attempt to tag them.
In attack we made some good runs and dodges, but it was pleasing to see the supporting runs the players made giving each other someone to pass to when they got tagged. In the last game there was a great example of this support running and passing that enabled Benjy to score the try. Highlights included;

Baker chasing down one of their players to tag him metres from the try line.
Aaron sneaky tackle of a Southend player to try and stop him scoring, but the comedy moment was when Aaron and Alex collided into each other when trying to chase down a Southend player
The defensive pressure near our try line which caused them to knock the ball on.

All in all I think it was a good performance from everyone, they are certainly improving week on week. This weeks try scorers were, Baker, Benjy, Henry, Sam, Jimmy and Aaron. I have that we scored a total of 13 trys.

Th team was asked for what they enjoyed today and responses were Grabbing the ball, Passing, Defense, Tagging and Running with the ball. When asked for what they did not enjoy we only had Alex who said he did not enjoy the opposition scoring.
Man of the Match results are as follows
Benjy voted for by Benjy, Baker voted for by Baker, Henry voted for by Henry, Sam voted for by Sam, Jimmy voted for by Jimmy, Ryan voted for by Ryan, Alex voted for by Alex, Sam voted for by Sam and Aaron voted for by Aaron. So rather than Man of the match I think we were Team of the day.

Finally it is not all about the rugby, a few of the parents were very pleased with the Sausage sandwiches available, A rating of 9 out of 10 was banded about. You never know we may in future have 2 reports to publish after the game, a game report and a food report,

Next week we are scheduled for training, hopefully the rain stays away to give the pitches a chance to recover.

See you next week
