Billericay clinch it late on at Cheshunt!

Our first ever visit to Cheshunt RFC in great weather conditions to play a friendly on their Artificial Grass Pitch - however there was nothing artificial about the drive and determination from the boys in black and gold who gave everything to snatch a late win!
A fantastic effort from both sets of players with the lead changing hands several times in the game as it ebbed and flowed, Billericay took an early lead via fly half Harry D in the corner, Billericay had the possession and opportunity to increase their advantage but Cheshunt stood strong and started to make their own in roads to the Billericay 22. They took the lead via a try in the corner and an outstanding conversion from out on the touchline. Another Cheshunt try soon followed via a breakaway from a restart and Billericay found themselves 9 points behind at half time 14-5 to the hosts.
A seemingly rejuvenated Billericay started the second half really strong and there was a break from the centre by James who outpaced the defence to dot down between the sticks, the conversion was good., 14 - 12 and game on! The momentum shifted yet again towards Cheshunt who piled on pressure from their big forwards and eventually their Number 8 forced himself over for a deserved score, the conversion was missed so it stayed at 19 - 12 to the hosts. Billericay were not done however, the energy was still there for a further effort into the late stages of the match, Alfie made a great run and crashed over but some heroic defending held it up, from the restart Billericay gained more possession and again visited the Cheshunt 22, a line break from Thomas, solid clearing out from hooker James and a quick recycle to Toby who evaded the desperate defending to get the score just to the side of the posts. A lot of pressure on Ellis with the conversion but he took it calmly and the game was tied at 19-19. This would have been a fair result but Billericay still fancied the 'W', Cheshunt were hanging in and frustrating the Bees with solid defending, a penalty to Billericay and Louis tapped and drove over powerfully for a score in the corner!!! The conversion was missed but 24-19 to The Bees ! The boys gave everything and were out on their feet but a really satisfying trip over to Hertfordshire and an excellent match! Well done Billericay !
