Bees u16's Bring home the Silverware.

Billericay U16 went to Chingford today, one of eight teams invited to take part in the Jack Conn Cup. A 10 a side competition played over two halves of 10 minutes.

Split in to two groups of four we had Old Brentwoods up first.
Given licence to experiment and try things today with out any pressure the boys took quickly to the wide open spaces that 10 player less on the field offers you. The boys good use of the ball in hand and off the boot with some searing pace led to a handsome victory. 60-0

We had to play our next game back to back with our first. The second game was against Haringey Rhinos, a side we've never encountered before. The larger opponents offered our boys a different set of questions to find a solution to. Once they worked the way to go was around and not through we took the opportunities well. Again good pace and use of the ball gave us a win 21-7.

Last group game of the day and we faced the hosts Chingford. They'd just played and drew 7-7 with Haringey so we knew a win would take us through. As you could guess from the draw they'd just played out Chingford played a similar game plan to Haringey so the boys were quick to try and play around the edges and in the wide open spaces.
We came away with a 40-0 victory and we took our place in the final.

Played 3, Won 3, Points for 121, Points against 7.

The winners of group two between Rochford, Eton Manor, Haringey B and Hackney were the Eton Manor so we took them on in the final.
We scored first and the boys were looking comfortable but Manor came back with a converted try to take the lead 7-5. The Bees dug deep and scored two more tries before half time. 15-7. The second half was thrilling and tight but neither team managed to add to their tally so Bees took the win.

Played 4, Won 4, Points For 136, Points Against 14.

As a coaching group we gave the boys the freedom to try anything they wanted to do and we tried to stay as quiet as possible on the side lines.
There were not 2 league points on offer, there was no next round of the cup to reach. Today was a day for them to go and have some fun and express themselves. To play with a smile on their faces and to each and everyone of the boys credit they played some truly outstanding rugby today.

Congratulations,
One Extremely proud Youth Chairman.
