A quieter Saturday at the club, we had girls team training and under 16's training starting early on Saturday.
The 1st team had their last league game of the season which ended a bit shorter than expected so the less said about that the better.
When tragedy strikes the rugby community comes together
This is exactly what happened following a recent horrific road traffic accident on the A13. Five people from Barking RFC were on route to a game at Thurrock one recent sunday morning when a life changing accident occurred. This left all 5 people injured with 3 of them ending up in intensive care. Led by the U17 parents Billericay reached out to Barking RFC to ask if we could support, offering a free hog roast at any event they were to arrange.
So on Sunday a few of the Billericay parents set out just after 5am, with pig and equipment on board, to take centre stage in front of the Barking clubhouse. There they delivered another superb hog roast, raising over £500 towards the fund for the injured players. One lad, who is still hospitalised, was allowed out by special transportation for a few hours. He watched the mini tournament set up by his club. He clearly loved his time out with his team mates. So glad Billericay were there front and centre offering our support, a special moment to be very of when the rugby community comes together. We wish them all a full and speedy recovery.
Back at the club we had training for baby bees to Under 9's. Under 10's - 12's were at the Essex festival.
Under 13's had a try feast of a match against Canvey with both teams scoring over 25 points it was a great advert for the game. For the match report click here
The U16s (pictured) closed out their 2018-19 season on a high this Sunday, with a well earned league match victory at home to Upper Clapton and Epping. Although we notched up an early try, courtesy of hooker Max Forster charging to the line from the ruck, the Bees toiled hard for much of the first half but didn't make further breakthrough. However two more scores we added in the second half from inside centre Manny Iwalewa, who was an unstoppable force once he got going, showing what you can achieve when you back yourself and run straight, with power! Johnny Wyndham safely converted all three tries and added a useful three points from a penalty in the dying seconds. Final score, 24-7, a delighted team and coaches and proud parents. Every player performed really well and it was a fitting end to a season which has seen great improvements in individuals and the team as a whole. Thanks to Andy V for refereeing, Andy C for feeding the masses, Justine and Jan for serving and Karolyn for washing the kit.
