Preseason friendly for Seniors, the return of contact rugby for Juniors and great weather

This weekend

Saturday started with Girls training. With 4 new girls we now have 16 within the squad.
A great achievement and this season we are hoping to have competitive games every 4-6 weeks.

The seniors were away at Thurrock for a pre season friendly. A competitive game against a team in a higher league. Tom Boughtwood is quoted as saying "We fronted up well despite being 14 men for 20 mins of the first half which gave them momentum with a few scores. A few injuries to Billericay players saw a shift in some positions, but when we attacked we looked good and broke through/made yards quite comfortably. All 3 of Billericays tries were well taken tries."
The work the players and coaches have put into pre season training is being displayed in these games and the seniors all have a really positive buzz going into the start of the season.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped out with the car park and serving food, your all superstars.

With Baby Bees to U12 all training, it was a nice busy start to the day. For the Youth teams the fixtures have started in earnest and here are some match reports;

U13s first time as a youth team, all looking very smart (Apart from Tom who is carrying an injury). U13s traveled to Woodford for our first match this season. It was a great game played in a fantastic spirit, due to numbers we borrowed players from Woodford who were excellent. Score was immaterial today, it was all about enjoying the day which everyone did. Our first competitive scrums were a huge success plus our rucking and mauling have massively improved. The players, coaches and parents are really excited about the new season.

U14s had a really good workout against Basildon today, 18 in Billericay squad vs 25 in Basildon squad including all their ‘Div 1’ players (we are ‘Div 3’). Played 4 quarters and score was more to Basildon than Billericay but our boys stood up really well (excellent discipline all round especially considering the amount penalties Billericay were awarded)

U17s visited May & Baker for a warm-up match. Billericay were 10-15 up after the first two quarters when unfortunately the game had to be abandoned. Billericay were strong in the scrum but M&B dominated the ruck. Max Forster found a gap in the defensive line to score Billericay's first try following an excellent dummy and pass from Joseph Snoxell. Patrick Turner (on his first match for Billericay) soon went over to add a second try. Dai Yamagichi nimbly added a third, right in the corner, his first try for the Bees. The game was generally evenly matched and the U17s look forward to playing M&B in earnest when the league starts. Thanks to Kathy Victory for washing the shirts this week.

U18 played a home game against Romford, The sun was shining the grass cut short and this suited Billericay more than it did Romford. It was good to see so many supporters from both sides, including the VIP Ollie Hitchcock who enjoyed his chair and reserved area.
Billericay played the whole game at a pace and intensity that Romford struggled to contain. Everyone worked very hard both with the ball and in defence and the pressure the put on Romford caused a number of turnovers and forced errors. Some amazingly quick backs meant Billericay scored some great tries, and spent a significant amount of the game within metres of Romford's try line. There was some great defence from Romford and impressive captaincy from their number 22 who kept the team positive throughout the match. The final score was 46 - 5 to Billericay

News, Notices and Reminders

England v Tonga World Cup Game
Date Sunday 22nd September
Kick off 11.15am
Venue - Inn on the Green

We are unable to show the England v Tonga game at the club on the 22nd.
So we have arranged for the Inn on the Green to host us.
Adults and children are all welcome.
We are looking at changing the training times for Mini's and Juniors to ensure people have time to get to the Inn on the Green.
In addition we are hoping to arrange for the worlds fastest tuk tuk to be at the club, so for a charitable donation you may be able to get a lift to the pub.

To properly plan we will need to give the pub an estimate of the number of people who will or may be attending, so please click on this link and complete the survey, so we can gauge numbers.
